VERDICT — CONFIRMED

Palestinian factions and mediators from Egypt, Qatar and Turkey reconvened in Cairo on June 7, 2026 to try to advance implementation of the Gaza ceasefire and discussions on its next phase. Per Al Jazeera and Egypt Today, a Hamas delegation led by Gaza-based leader Khalil al-Hayya met Egyptian officials and mediators to discuss completing the first phase and mechanisms for moving to the second.
Hamas told envoys from the Board of Peace and the mediators that ending Israeli attacks in Gaza was essential for any progress, and reiterated it would not surrender its weapons, saying any arsenal decisions awaited 'comprehensive discussions with other Palestinian factions.' The transition to the second phase — covering Hamas disarmament and Israeli troop withdrawal — has been stalled for months. Al Jazeera reported the Israeli army killed at least 13 Palestinians across Gaza on June 7 as the talks opened; it cited roughly 947 Palestinians killed and more than 2,900 wounded since the October 2025 ceasefire, with four Israeli soldiers killed in the same period, and said the Israeli military controlled about 64% of Gaza, up from the 53% envisaged under the agreement.
The renewed diplomacy followed Egyptian warnings (May 30) that escalations threatened the truce.
