European Parliament leaders to visit Dublin ahead of Irish EU presidency

European Parliament President Roberta Metsola and the leaders of the Parliament's political groups will travel to Dublin to prepare for Ireland's upcoming presidency of the Council of the EU, the Parliament said in a press release of 19 June.

Per the release, the Conference of Presidents was to visit Dublin on Tuesday 23 June, with meetings at the Houses of the Oireachtas including Irish President Catherine Connolly, Taoiseach Micheál Martin and government ministers. The Parliament noted that its leadership traditionally visits the incoming presidency country to align on priorities and ensure coordinated action.

The agenda set out in the release covers competitiveness and the "One Europe, One Market" roadmap, the next long-term EU budget, and EU values and security. "Ireland takes on the Council Presidency at a defining moment for Europe. Together, the Council and the European Parliament can turn ambition into action," Metsola said, per the release.

Ireland's presidency runs from 1 July to December 2026, to be followed by Lithuania in January 2027. A press conference with Metsola and the Taoiseach was scheduled for 18:10 local time on 23 June, broadcast on the Parliament's multimedia centre, per the release.
