Princess Leonor, 20, the heir to the Spanish throne, made her debut at Spain's annual Armed Forces Day (Dia de las Fuerzas Armadas, DiFAS26) on 30 May 2026 in Vigo, appearing alongside King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia at the waterfront ceremony. Leonor wore the cadet uniform of the General Air and Space Academy in aviation grey, displaying insignia indicating fourth-year status and academic distinction, reflecting the final Air Force phase of her three-service officer training; on completion she will be the first woman in Spanish history to have undergone full officer training across the Army, Navy and Air Force.

The central ceremony featured 3,746 service members drawn from the Royal Guard, Army, Navy, Air and Space Force, the Guardia Civil and the Military Emergency Unit (UME). Poor weather forced cancellation of the PAPEA acrobatic parachute team's jump and grounded a planned 70-aircraft flyover, which had been due to include around 30 fighters (Eurofighters, F-18s and Harriers), 16 transport aircraft and 25 helicopters.

The day was marred by a mechanical hoisting failure during the flag-raising ceremony that sent the Spanish flag to the ground before officials and spectators; Royal Guard personnel quickly retrieved it and the ceremony continued. The appearance is a milestone in the Crown's generational handover strategy, embedding Leonor in the armed forces ahead of her eventual accession and presenting the future queen in a martial, ceremonial setting at a national set-piece.
